Information architecture is a process of structuring, describing, and organizing information to help people create, manage, and consume information. All Web sites have IA, whether it has been planned or evolved over time. This course will focus on methods and techniques that will allow you to build a Web site that meets the needs of your audience and your organization.
In this course you will learn how to do the following:
- Analyze your existing information architecture
- Identify and apply metadata to structure your content for ease of use
- Design new architectures according to user needs
- Classify and categorize your material to improve findability
- Choose navigational labels that resonate with your audience
Part 1
In part 1 of this Click U Live! seminar, we will focus on evaluating the content that exists on your current Web site. Techniques such as an architecture review and content analysis will be covered. These methods allow you to see the patterns and relationships inherent in your content. We will look at metadata and controlled vocabularies, which are used to describe and structure your content.
This course will use real-life examples from Chiara’s work as an IA consultant to illustrate the concepts covered.
Targeted Learners
This course is an introduction to IA concepts and methods. It is recommended for librarians and information professionals who are responsible for organizing and maintaining content on the Internet. While knowledge of user research techniques and business strategy is helpful, it is not required for the class.
