The Course

Back by popular demand! Lolly’s presentation on December 7, 2005 was one of the most highly attended programs in 2005. So, we are giving SLA members another opportunity to gain from her vast expertise. She will discuss relevant new information and updates about copyright.

The Course
With a growing number of corporate intranets and other electronic communications tools, companies risk inadvertently violating United States and international copyright laws. Copyright is a strict liability statute where neither ignorance nor inadvertence reduces liability.

Critical Learning Questions

  • How can libraries explain to management, public relations and others the consequences of posting copyrighted materials in the intranet?
  • How can corporate librarians avoid potentially costly mistakes?
  • Is there any way to simplify the complicated requirements for compliance with the copyright law?
  • Should corporate libraries assume the role of copyright police within the company?
  • Are there steps a company can take to eliminate or reduce its liability for copyright infringement?

These and other issues will be addressed in this virtual seminar. The New York Chapter of SLA originally conceptualized this topic and brought forth three presentations and a panel discussion in March, 2005. The room was filled to capacity--you will not want to miss it!
