What are the various ways Published Source Collection supports CI?
How do I effectively manage CI literature research and resources?
This online course continues the exploration of the functions of the Intelligence Process/Cycle with Published Source Collection (aka literature research or secondary research). We will focus on managing the function by examining 1) differences between intelligence literature research and general business research 2) types of intelligence literature research 3) specific requirements and considerations for intelligence research 4) how to design literature research projects to support analytical requirements 5) how to structure and manage the intelligence information center, its resources, and efforts. Throughout, we will consider the variety of literature resources used in CI: print, fee-based content, and Web-based content.
NOTE: Participants will receive a copy of the e-book: Know! Competitive Intelligence: Published Source Collection. (Knowledge inForm, 2005)
Course Level: Intermediate - Concepts beyong the scope of fundamentals for practitioners at all experience levels.
Course Learning Objectives
At the end of this course, participants will demonstrate an understanding of the concepts, tools, and best practices in managing intelligence literature research.
Specific Learning Outcomes:
1. Define the differences between Published Source Collection for intelligence applications and general business research.
2. Employ appropriate types of literature research efforts that are used in competitive intelligence.
3. Design and manage Published Source Collection efforts, strategies, resources, and tools withing the intelligence framework and in the context of an intelligence project.
4. Effectively coordinate and align research efforts to work effectively and seamlessly with an intelligence team and with other intelligence functions.
5. Provide more targeted support to specific analytical frameworks thorugh literature research.
6. Design and evaluate research tools and frameworks to more effectively manage literature search efforts.
Participants will develop skills and abilities according to professional competencies outlined by Knowledge inForm.
Performance Measure
Course assessment, exercises and discussions will measure and evaluate the degree of understanding that participants achieve over the learning process.
